ADHAR (Association of Parents of Mentally Retarded Children) runs three residential centres in and around Thane providing lifelong care, vocational activity and rehabilitation for adults with intellectual disabilities whose families can no longer care for them at home. It was set up in 1990 by parents of children with intellectual disabilities who wanted a secure, dignified option for their children's adult years.
