Antyodoy Anath Ashram runs an orphanage in the remote village of Paunsi in Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal, founded in 1995 by local resident Balaram Karan after he took in an abandoned child, and formally registered in 2004. It now shelters, feeds and educates over 170 orphaned and destitute children, running its own nursery and primary school, a creche for working parents, vocational training and healthcare services, alongside disaster-relief work in the surrounding area.
